Youngstown uses ARP funds to revive Eastside Downtown

The Youngstown City Council approved a number of ARP projects Wednesday night, including one specifically for the east side of downtown.
The project is sending $300,000 in ARP funding to the area to grow businesses and help entrepreneurs on East Federal Street.
“The East End in downtown Youngstown has been abandoned for years. A group of entrepreneurs and other businesses want to revive the East End and want it back,” Assemblyman Julius Oliver said.
The east end of Commonwealth Street was once home to several steelworks buildings, so huge buildings remain at that end.
“The opportunity to invest money, time and resources in old steel mill buildings is worth a lot of money. It’s essentially an incentive to rebuild East End entrepreneurs to help them get back on their feet,” Oliver said.
Penguin City Brewery opened in a former Republic Steel warehouse now shared by DOPE Cider House & Winery.
