What are the seismic problems of frame steel structure

Because of its good seismic performance, the overall collapse of frame steel structure buildings is rarely found. However, due to the material, construction quality and building layout of the frame structure, some structural components and filling components have been damaged to a certain extent.   

 1、 In the plane, the lateral stiffness distribution of the main structure is changed to change the seismic internal force distribution among the steel members. In the vertical direction, the change of the stiffness of the structural layer leads to the appearance of the weak layer.   

 2、 It is difficult to select the appropriate structural seismic analysis model and estimate the seismic response correctly.According to the current code of China, when dealing with the contribution of infill wall to the lateral stiffness of the structure, the reduction of the natural vibration cycle of the steel structure is considered, so as to amplify the earthquake action.The influence of different layout of plane and vertical infill wall on the structure is not considered. 

3、 Improper treatment of infill wall of steel frame structure often leads to the damage of main structure, such as the formation of short columns and shear failure, which should be paid attention to by designers.   

 4、 There are inevitably a certain number of infill walls in any floor of frame structure, and generally speaking, the infilled wall will crack before the frame column. Therefore, in order to avoid the infilled wall, which is a non structural part, to be damaged greatly, the allowable cracking degree of infilled wall must be considered in the limit value of inter story displacement angle for checking the inter story displacement.

5、 From the point of view of earthquake damage, although the earthquake intensity in the earthquake area may exceed the frequent earthquake intensity specified in the code.The serious damage of infill wall of frame steel structure is also reasonable. At the same time, the damage of staircase wall is also serious. In design, preventing the damage of staircase wall is beneficial to prevent the damage of staircase. Considering the above factors, it is suggested that the limit of elastic interlayer displacement angle of frame steel structure under frequent earthquake action should be appropriately reduced.The frequent earthquake action is mainly to ensure that the steel structure is in elastic state, and the main steel members of the structure are not bad. Because there is a certain gap between the infilled wall and the frame beam and column, and the deformation of the infilled wall with different materials is also different. In the calculation of frequent earthquake, the stiffness of the infilled wall is considered to be reasonable. 

6、 Reinforced concrete steel structure in rare earthquake, the overall structure does not have resistance reserve, steel structure mainly rely on its own deformation to absorb and dissipate seismic energy, through checking calculation to ensure that the structure does not collapse.According to code for seismic design of buildings (GB 50011-2011), the limit value of elastic-plastic inter story displacement angle is 1 / 50 for reinforced concrete frame structure.   

 7、 In code for design of concrete structures (GB 5001-2002), the internal force adjustment of beam column members, the limitation of column axial ratio and the reinforcement ratio of column volume are adopted.Its main goal is to ensure the design idea of “strong column and weak beam, strong shear and weak bending, strong joint and weak component”, which is consistent with the three level objectives.
