Steel, aluminum distributor to occupy warehouse in village | News

PLEASANT PRAIRIE — A steel and aluminum distributor plans to occupy an existing speculative warehouse in Pleasant Prairie.

On Monday, the village’s Plan Commission approved final site and operational plans to lease the warehouse on redeveloped property in the LakeView Corporate Park to Ta Chen International.

The company distributes stainless, aluminum and nickel alloy coils, sheets, plates, long products, tubes, pipes, valves and fittings.

According to the plans, it needs the additional space to store 5-foot by 6-foot aluminum coils, which will be elevated on pallets and stacked in double rows.

The new warehouse, built by Seefried Properties, is on a site once occupied by Rentsys Recovery Services, which was acquired by Texas-based Agility Services in December and subsequently moved out.

The developer then razed the former building on the 12.78-acre property in May and began construction on the new building in June.

Ta Chen currently employs approximately 70 full-time and five part-time positions. The plans include four full-time employees who will work at the site.

An average of 40 to 60 vehicles will be taken to the facility each day, with approximately two to 10 daily truck runs. The building has 23 dock doors with an additional 36 truck spaces that could be converted to dock doors.

Ta Chen currently has two facilities in the village. One is located at 8500 109th St., which is undergoing an expansion project that was approved by the Village Board in June. The other facility is located at 8505 100th St.

In other business, the commission approved amendments to the zoning and certified survey map for a proposed 4,000-square-foot Sherwin-Williams branded paints and products store planned for 91st Avenue between 76th Street and Prairie Ridge Boulevard, in the Prairie Ridge Development.

The plans were amended to allow for the building to occupy a subdivided property of just under 1.3 acres instead of 2 acres. Construction is expected to begin in February, with the store slated to open in June.

To the south of the proposed paint store is about 3.6 acres that is expected to be used for future commercial development.

Beautiful day in Kenosha! My sister & brother in law, Shelly & Steve Nelson enjoyed the sail for their 25th wedding anniversary!

Ben Raimonde was part of a group of Kenosha Community Sailing Center instructors and students who had the opportunity to participate in a four day Science Under Sail program aboard the Denis Sullivan this week. In addition to learning about various water related science topics, they lived aboard the 137 foot schooner, and were actively involved in the operations of the ship. After a brief training session in Milwaukee, the ship’s home port, they sailed to Algoma, where they met up with several other tall ships for a race to Kenosha for the Tall Ship Festival. Crew member Abbiey Elsasser took this photo of Ben climbing the side stays to get to the cross trees which are 65 feet above the water. Ben described the climb as an exhilarating experience. From the cross trees he learned how the sails were rigged and how the top and gaff sails are hoisted.
