Spanish architecture studio Delavegacanolasso has created a modular prefab cabin that can be ordered online and delivered on the back of a truck to serve as a home office, weekend resort or even a small residence.
The compact unit is called Tini and can be assembled and ready to be placed in a prepared plot. The cabin size is between 20 and 102 square meters, made in Spain and fully equipped.
Although a standard-sized cabin can be used as a home office, the studio envisions connecting multiple units to serve as a home.
Ignacio de la Vega, co-founder of Delavegacanolasso, told Dezeen: “The main idea is to transform your house from a long and difficult process into a quick solution.
“Nowadays, everything is so instant, and construction is still so slow that many people don’t even think of building their own houses.”
The Tini nacelle has a galvanized steel frame and a panel with poplar oriented chain board (OSB) inside. The insulation layer is provided by a 12 cm thick layer of recycled cotton.
This ready-made home office version can be ordered online and covers an area of 20 or 34 square meters.
Buyers can use customization tools to choose between two frame colors, various layouts, “comfortable” or “minimalist” material palettes, and connected or self-sufficient settings.
The self-sufficient option comes with septic tanks, solar panels and water tanks. Delavigacanolasso said it will take two to three days to install these tanks. The connected Tini engine room can be connected to on-site water, electricity and sanitation facilities.
For larger structures, two or three cabins can be connected together to create a larger space, with a maximum capacity of 102 square meters. The studio hopes this can promote people to move from cities to rural areas.
De La Vega explained: “We realized how ridiculous it is to compare expensive small apartments in the city with large areas of land in the suburbs.”
“We believe that a comeback is a way to solve this problem, and we want to make it as simple as possible.”
Buyers can also choose to add Corten steel plates, furniture, cabinets and workbenches made of local wood, pine and/or OSB to create a more personalized cabin.
De la Vega explained: “We provide the possibility to customize your Tini as if it were a pair of Nike.
“The well-designed products we provide have high thermal performance and the price is the same as that of ordinary houses, but we complete them completely and can be used within 60 days.”
The cabin was launched at the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak last year. So far, it has basically been sold to customers in Spain, some of which are shipped to France and the United Kingdom.
De La Vega added: “We know that during the lockdown, people will realize if their houses can improve their lives,”
Other recent cabins on Dezeen include a modular structure designed by Lithuanian studio ŠAAtelier that allows occupants to experience life in nature and an off-grid seaside cabin near Helsinki.
