Calculation method of height and shape complexity of steel structure building

The seismic design of high-rise steel structure buildings should adopt the design method. For the elastic analysis under frequent earthquakes, the elastic analysis of multi-storey and high-rise steel structures should be carried out under frequent earthquakes. At this time, assuming that the steel structure and its components are in elastic working state, the bearing capacity of the members is stable, the interlayer deformation and overall stability of the steel structure are checked.The calculation method should be determined according to the height and the complexity of the shape of the steel structure building.

   1.For buildings whose height of steel structure is less than 40m and whose plane and vertical are regular and mainly shear deformation, the bottom shear method can be used to calculate, and the ratio of the structure is equivalent to 0.05.  

   2.The bottom shear method can also be used for buildings with steel structure height less than 60m and regular horizontal and vertical comparison. However, the seismic action should be determined according to the technical regulations for steel structures of high-rise civil buildings. This is because the influence of some high vibration modes has been considered in the bottom shear method, and the damping ratio of the structure is 0.02.   

   3.The time history analysis method should be used for supplementary checking calculation for structures with irregular plane or vertical structure or special structure system, such as mega steel structure, structure with transfer floor or outrigger truss. When analyzing internal force and deformation in elastic stage, no less than two different mechanical models or calculation programs should be used for calculation, analysis and comparison.   

   4.When the effect of wind load is greater than that of earthquake, i.e. the displacement between floors and the bearing capacity of members are determined by the combination of wind load, the checking calculation of seismic action may not be considered in the elastic stage, but the seismic structural requirements of steel structure should be designed in strict accordance with the relevant provisions of the building seismic code.
